"Grace Notes" is a wonderful, pocket-sized book that urges you to reach in to your inner-self and out to others. Each day list a thoughtful quote, two 'grace notes' and a spot for you to jot down your own ideas. I usually can't help myself and skip ahead to future days. The size is perfect and I can stash the book in my purse or briefcase so I'm never without some helpful encouragement. The only thing I didn't like was the book is a little drab. Everything in the book is black-and-white but I think for such a feel-good book some color is in order.

An interesting read

This book is a beautiful collection of stories, particularly for those who are interested in the spiritual aspect of tales across many cultures. Coelho has nicely picked and added flavor to some of these stories that represent many cultures and sub-cultures, but have common themes and messages based on spirituality and wisdom. Even those who are not interested in religion may find it interesting, because there are several stories that contain a general view of spirituality and not limited to one specific worldview.

I read a translated version of this book in Persian/Farsi several years ago, but I liked to take a look at the English translation as well. Overall, a good read.

About the Author
Wilhelm Grimm (1786 1859) and his brother, Jacob, are most famous for their classical collections of folk songs and folktales, especially Children's and Household Tales, which is generally known as Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) was born in London and worked in an Insurance office to pay for evening classes at the Lambeth School for Art. After his drawings were published in Punch, the English humor magazine, Rackham became well known for his distinctive, richly detailed illustrations for such classics as Gulliver's Travels, Mother Goose, The Fairy Tales of Grimm, Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, Aesop's Fables, and The Wind in the Willows.

Love Grimm and love Arthur Rackham. This is a good collection of stories with black and white illustrations. For price, this is good but would give 5 stars if color pictures were included.

About the Author
PAUL C. KRAUSE is Professor of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and has authored or coauthored more than 100 technical papers. He also coauthored Analysis of Electric Machinery and Electromechanical Motion Devices.

OLEG WASYNCZUK is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. He has authored or coauthored more than 50 technical papers and is the coauthor of Analysis of Electric Machinery and Electromechanical Motion Devices.

SCOTT D. SUDHOFF is Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University and associate editor of the IEEE?s Transactions on Energy Conversion. He also holds patents in the areas of solid-state distribution transformers and the stability of power electronics?based systems.

The Required Book

Krause is the standard for electric machinery and drives. If you need theory of operation for rotating electrical machinery, start with this book and then expand as you need to cover specific topics. This does not mean that Krause is easy, but he is pretty complete. He's not too bad to read, but for the pure beginner, there are easier text.

The book is riddled with formulas that are incorrect because of typos or characters left out. Chosen characters to represent variables used in formulas leave the reader in doubt as the characters appear without explanation of what they represent. It seems a requirement before reading this book is one having done their dissertation on motor design or has worked in the industry designing electric motors. In either case this book will only serve the purpose of a reference book at best and its apparent purpose of teaching you how to analyze electric machinery and drive systems.

The Beginning of Inspector Banks

I read the other books in Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series and was glad to be able to read the first 3 books - Gallow's View, A Dedicated Man and A Necessary End. These books give the background of Inspector Banks' relationships with his wife Sandra and Sergeant Hatchley. Peter Robinson's writing is detailed without being boring and seamless going from one scene to the next. Inspector Banks solves his cases by looking at all the evidence, not just the convenient pieces of evidence.
One inconsistency I did note was that Banks' father had to retire because of angina early in the series but later on in the series he was made redundant due to Thatcher policies.
On the whole, this book was well worth reading.

Inspector Banks is terrific!

I'm a huge fan of Inspector Banks and having his first three "episodes" contained in one book was a nice feature except the book was much heavier than my Kindle, but hey, you can't have everything.

First started in the middle of the series, In A Dry Season and Playing with Fire. This heavy paperback caught me up on his early Eastvale days, his marriage and so on. Great 3 novels in 1 bargain, enjoying the series, always surprising mysteries, great ambiance descriptions of the dales, its towns and pubs and people.

John Dean understands the research of social scientists Adorno (The Authoritarian Personality) and Rokeach (The Open and Closed Mind) These are books that author Peter Thomas obviously never read and probably would not understand even if he did.

The Conservatives waste of time

The conservative movement must have a place somewhere that continually spews out bad books to counter well researched serious books. This is another propaganda book that must come from there. If you notice at least 5 books come out each month with the same lame authors that hatefully bash the Moderate, Democratic or Liberal side. If you add this to the 24 hours of anger filled conservative talk radio. It looks like they have a problem with any other ideals except their own. If they would have their way it would be a democracy like Iran and they would be the supreme leaders. Freedom of speech would only be on their terms.

How does an author find a publisher for this drivel? Where are the credentials of a scholarly, well-researched disputation, if this purports to be one? This is nothing more than a couch-potato, knee-jerk spasmodic reaction from the lunatic fringe of the far-right to the work of an acknowledged apostate from the conservative movement when it was conservative, and not the neo-oddity it became. If you buy this book it is because you have too much money, too much time or you believe in the tooth fairy. This thing belongs on the trash-heap of history and judging by the Amazon Sales ranking it is on its way there, albeit not fast enough ...
