well worth it!

Bought these for my granddaughter as she entered kindergarten and was interested in learning to read. Now after her first year she is able to read several of the books on her own. She needed the classroom instruction regarding word attack, looking for picture clues etc. She definitely enjoys them and never tires of reading and rereading. She's now trying to teach her younger sister!

I was disappointed in the overall look at packaging. The books are very small and numerous and thus one taken out of the wrapping thye can be easily misplaced. The paper quality is not very good or suitable for a small child who is not always very gentle. However, the contents are very good.

Great set of learn to read books to grow with.

These books are great for my little daughter to improve her reading. The books are small and thin, which works well for her, so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed. Each book is pretty short with only 8 pages so it doesn’t feel like work and helps boost her confidence. She finds the titles and endings to be funny.

I like that the set has 4 different reading levels so that she can grow into them as her reading progresses. We are only on the first set which is perfect for a little one who is beginning to read. Each of the 20 books in this set includes some phonics and some sight words. She can’t decode all the words, but can use picture clues to figure them out.

The set was good value for the price and is perfect for a child learning to read.

Could only run second to a book by Miyagi himself!

This book could only run a second to a book by Miyagi himself! Yamaguchi Gogen Sensei gives us the absolute guide on the karate system founded by Chojun Miyagi. Even the class structure is there. From Junbi Undo (preparatory exercises) to basics, kata, kumite, Hojo Undo (supplementary exercises)this book is traditional Goju Ryu Karate all the way.
Put together in a very logical step by step way many of today's martial arts writers should take from Yamaguchi on how to write a karate instruction manual.
As is always the case, no matter how well the words describe the techniques or how well the pictures show them, there is no substitute for an actual teacher. Why? Because you cannot explain proper breathing, timing, tempo, focus, weight distribution, balance, and the many other aspects of techniques and kata without actually seeing them and doing them in person. A qualified karate instructor is always needed. This book is great for any one beginning their journey in Goju Ryu karate. It is perfect for the seasoned practitioner also. It is packaged perfect for the collector item that it is. I always use it for reference and have this deep respect for the writer for he is one of the original masters of Goju Ryu Karate and the founder of Goju Kai (Japanese Goju).
I highly recommend this book and anything that you can get your hands on by Morio Higaonna. A word to the wise. The paperback edition listed for this book refers to the title To Te Jutsu. Be careful. It is not Gogen Yamaguchi' book but rather Gichen Funakoshi's early vershion of Shotokan. Buyer beware of this. Buy this hard cover. You will not be disappointed.

GojuRyu Karate Do Kyohan - You need your reading glasses for this one!

This text is full of information. It relies heavily on graphics to convey the various movements that form the essential Kata and fighting application of the Goju Ryu style.

This is a work that will benefit those of you who have been training for a few years as it requires a knowledge of several higher Kata and a more than basic understanding of goju ryu techniques. It is always good to read the wisdom of a master of our style and Yamaguchi does have some important messages for the thoughtful student of Karate. However, you will have to work your way through short paragraph after paragraph of ideas to find a thought that will grab your attention!

Unfortuneately the print and graphic images in this edition are too small for old eyes and if you are over 50 you really need some magnification to be able to read the text and interpret the graphics.

This is a great book, BUT, I think it takes some previous training and not a white belt level to comprehend the hidden golden nuggets that Yamaguchi Sensei hid in here...
It's all there as if he wrote a letter to you and had it handed down the line to you.
For a Goju person , this is a MUST buy ! I study Okinawan Goju, but to get lessons from a MASTER like Yamaguchi Sensei,...so worth it !
Do yourself the favor and just pull the trigger and buy it !
Thank you Yamaguchi Sensei for leaving such a treasure behind for us ! And thank you to the publisher for making it available so economically !

Robert S. Leiken has been a Senior Fellow at Harvard's Center for International Affairs, the Carnegie Endowment, CSIS, and the Brookings Institution and director of the Immigration Program at The Center for the National Interest. His commentaries have appeared in many major U.S newspapers; his essays in Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, The New York Review of Books, The New Republic, The National Interest, The Weekly Standard and The Times Literary Supplement. He has authored books on immigration, Central America, and Soviet strategy. He is presently writing a memoir.

Why no other reviews of this great book?

I'm astounded that mine is the first review here, although the book has been available for 6 months. If the goal of a non-fiction is to teach a great deal on a particular topic of interest, this may be the best book that I've read in years. And the subject is one that should be important to everyone: Muslims and why they are angry. The author dissects the subject by country, explaining how which Muslims came from where and settled in select parts of European countries. He explains why so many have been radicalized despite influences from Western cultures. He explains why England's Muslims are angrier than France's despite the fact that France is less accommodating. And so much more.

Why should Americans care about radicalized Muslims in the suburbs of London? Because they are the ones who are most likely to fly planes into our buildings, more so than Muslims from Syria, Iraq or Iran. And they are the ones that the Muslims communities here interact with.

Again, an extremely well researched, well written book on an important topic.

A Big Breath of Fresh Air

I have read a number of books lately concerning Islam, the history of Islamic expansion, and the danger posed to Western culture by Islamic aspirations for conquest. As I read Dr. Leiken's book: Europe's Angry Muslims, I started to notice something different. The book is impressively informative and would seem to be indisputably accurate, if for no other reason than Dr. Leiken's use of several hundreds of cited sources . Dr. Leiken draws parallels using the UK, France and Germany. He provides extensive explanations of each country's method of governing their former colonies. He goes on to provide each country's history with Islamic immigration. And he shows how each country's method of governing colonies affects their approaches to governing their homelands now. With all these connections in place, he then shows how each country regards, and is regarded by, its Islamic population.

What I found so refreshing was that nowhere does Dr. Leiken draw a conclusion, take a position, advance a judgement, or otherwise insert his own feelings into the matter. It is an authentic example of "no spin". Bravo! So that's what anthropology is supposed to be like.

Dr. Leiken's final sentence is a beautifully phrased and mildly administered rebuke to those who would write polemics and call them factual analyses. It is as follows:

"Nuance, specifity, and complexity rank as outsiders in a political culture that rewards partisanship, a media that reduces complex stories to "sound bites", an academy that merchandizes what it calls "theory", agenda-driven foundations and a think-tank world where policy often precedes, or even precludes, research. So take away, please, dear reader, a mind for patient and concrete analysis as a condition for policy and action."

This is sound advice from an honest and admirable scholar. Regardless of the subject matter, the preparation and presentation of Europe's Angry Muslims is to be applauded as a masterly discourse which cannot fail to make a strong impression upon the reader.

Excellent historical review. Bogs down a bit with unfamiliar Arab names (to a certain extent unavoidable). The differences between certain European countries, and their historical attitudes toward assimilation, tolerance of nonassimilation, and the outcomes is minatory for the US.

I wonder what the Queen thought of this one?

I sometimes think that Sue Townsend has the ability to take the most everyday of situations and mundane people and put them in witty, funny difficulties; first bringing Adrian Mole to hilarious reality, then a young Margaret Thatcher, Ms. Townsend breathes life, humour and satire into a personality that few might associate with side-splitting humour...the Queen!
What would happen if the Republicans were to win the British elections by a landslide? The story begins with Queen (and Corgi)watching media coverage of such an event on the Master-bedroom telly at Buckingham Palace. The Royal family soon finds itself stripped of wealth, titles, power and the life of leisure. They are forced into life as that of a down and out family, living in a council house and on social assistance (imagine!). Our heroine, formerly Her Majesty the Queen, now Mrs. Liz Windsor is a housewife unable to deal with a seriously depressed husband who rarely leaves his bed and children who despite lives of privelige, have still failed to find their own ways in life. Mrs. Windsor is thus once again forced into the position of head of the household.
This is a work of satire that is so hilarious, so thoughtful and so original that I'm not surprised at Sue Townsend's now world-wide reputation as one of Britain's most important contemporary writers. I recommend it to any Anglophile out there; I also recommend it to the "anti-Anglophiles" as well as both will find much to laugh at

Just What If?

The Queen and family were fired? A dark horse Republican takes over Parliament and his first act is to dissolve the monarchy. All their estates and belongings are turned over to the Government. The Royal Family is instantly transformed into poor pensioners receiving welfare and set up in grim little council flats.
It is pleasing to tell you that Queen Elizabeth copes admirably. After a few faltering missteps (please remember Her Majesty has never dressed herself, opened a door or made a cuppa tea in her life), the Queen pulls herself together, makes do and takes charge of her bewildered family. Philip goes into a deep depression and takes to his bed. Charles becomes a passionate gardener and gets a crush on a well-endowed commoner next door. Diana airily, with excellent good will, sets about redecorating and rearranging her clothes. Margaret is arrogantly certain it is all a hideous mistake. The Queen Mum is good natured, befuddled and instantly makes tremendous friends with her Cockney neighbors. Anne is grimly practical and sees the advantage of courting a plumber. Charles and Wills have no trouble losing their accents and becoming one of the guys in the gang.
"The Queen and I" is more a gentle satire and almost never mean spirited. I think the author has confidence in the Queen's powers of diversity and admires Princess Anne's spunk. I am sure English readers appreciate and are more aware of the subtleties than we Americans, but this didn't stop me from having a most enjoyable, very fast read. (Even if I never did figure out what "agro" and "filofax" were!)

This is an absolutely delightful book.

The novel concerns the Royal family, which must now life like ordinary citizens because of a change in government. From now on, they will live in council housing--two bedrooms, one bath--with no staff or servants of any kind. Now each will be addressed by their given names rather than by title. The Queen, Mrs. Windsor, at first is quite incapable of performing the simplest tasks. "[She] tried to open the door. It was extraordinarily difficult. True, it was years since she'd opened the front door of any house, but surely it had been easier than this?" Charles is the only one who is delighted since he will never have to be King. The novel is filled with misunderstandings and complications based on ignorance of even the most fundamental needs. "There's no lavatory paper, Lilibet," whispered the Queen Mother. "How does one obtain lavatory paper?" . . . "One has to buy it from a shop,"said Charles. There is no meanness in this satire, only lots of fun.

If you are looking for time well spent, this collection of illustrations and guided historical ways of seeing through the veil to the all encompassing universe of numbers and the make-up of everything you see......this book should not go untouched if you like fun attached to numbers and learning....your in for a very amazing treat. A NEW book on Senna... and (shocking) a GREAT one!!

Nicely done, Mr. Dodgins, bravo!! I was nervous about getting "another" book on Senna... I have dozens. But I must say, THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT. It's not just all the races, chronologically. It's also a fantastic journey of both a truly all-encompassing overview, and really terrific tidbits of "episodes" occurring during races, or because of races, or as a result of races. And many times these episodes are accentuated with latter-day additions to those events. A really great book... as much fun to read as it is to leaf through. I would think this would be a great book for old-time Senna fans such as myself, and for new fans who want a fantastic overview and true glimpses into who Senna "really" was. Thank you for pursuing this Mr. Dodgins, and to the publisher! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by this Senna fan since 1985. Buy this book - you will not be disappointed, for sure. Also, beautifully printed, and terrific color photo's throughout. Great book!

Anyone seriously committed to the investigation of the mechanics of healing, needs this book as a guide to the process of what happens both to the patient and the physician in the healing interchange. Clearly taking the Ageless wisdom view, clarified further by his unique ability to delve into the soul of man, his vehicles of expression on the earth, this book\manual weaves a rich tapestry of both subjective and objective approaches to a otherwise complex system which begs the reader to know himself and his patient in this wonderful exchange of evolutionary interchange between patient, physician, and the human soul. Not for the faint hearted, this 900 page volume gives that quantum leap required to establish the more serious reader to higher levels of the mental plane where true healing takes place. Full of exercises and examples, physicians would do well to apply these to their practices, allowing their patients to evolve to their highest potential in this lifetime, and to ultimately become responsible for their own health and healing.

Needs an editor

The book contains a lot of good technical information about RouterOS. The author bio would lead you to think it was written by an American author. It is obviously written by someone that has English as a second language. I don't think I have ever read a book that had as many grammatical errors. The publisher should pay a good editor to clean up the grammar.

Had the previous version of the book. Kindle version has no Table of Contents, index has no links to pages, so you have to guess the location you want to go to. For reference manuals, unless there is a usable index with links to pages, it's pretty much useless.

The author repeats points commonly throughout the book and does not structure her opinions or timeline in any logical form. She seems to write for the purpose of creating a lengthy textbook instead of being concise and straight to the point. For example, a single 5-minute Youtube video was able to better explain how the different EU institutions worked than reading 60 pages of irrelevant case examples and repetitive historical literature. Would not recommend this book at all for anybody who is actually interested in learning about the EU.
