Same book-Different title

Well, I was very dissapointed but not in the writing. More or less in the title, see I have already read this book...under a different cover and title. "The tycoons secret affair"...I enjoy Maya Banks as an author and was looking for something new to read so I chose this title. I noticed a few pages in that this seemed oddly familiar. So I've now purchased two of the same book. It's more of a complaint. And an issue not appreciated, so I would warn future readers to beware and read the titles closely. Make sure it isn't something you've purchased before.

Not worth it

I preordered this book sometime back because I'd read the first 2 books in the series by Ms Banks. I was truly disappointed in this one. It was unrealistic and stretched credibility way too far. I'm fond of alpha Hs but this one was actually just a jerk. The h was a doormat and simpery and seemed like she lacked intelligence. I can't believe that the author wrote this book.

I was even more irritated with the second book because I'd bought and read it before. There wasn't any mention of this being a rerelease. I didn't enjoy it much the second time. Once again we have a ridiculously forgiving h, who'd been jilted by the H at the altar 4 years before without explanation or contact until the h decides to sell her engagement ring online. The h had only ever been with the H and obviously no one else since the breakup, whilst the H obviously had loads of women. I'm really tired of this storyline. It was better written than the first book.

As much as I like this author, I hate being duped. This is a rerelease that is not advertised as such. We all need to make a living but theft and deception is unacceptable, demeaning and incredibly disrespectful to this authors readership.

About the Author
Ronelle Alexander is professor of Slavic languages and literatures at the University of California, Berkeley. She is author of the two-volume Intensive Bulgarian: A Textbook and Reference Grammar. Ellen Elias-Bursac is a language teacher and a literary translator. She taught BCS for ten years at Harvard University’s Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures and now lives in Europe.

Outstanding and a worthy successor to Magner's old course

- Chapters use dialogues and literary excerpts.

I wish that I had used this course when I was learning Croatian. In a way I look at this new course by Alexander and Elias-Bursac as an unofficial upgrade on Thomas Magner's course, "Introduction to the Croatian and Serbian Language" which I was using. They apply the ideas of balancing the standards, showing accentuation patterns of words, excellent coverage of grammatical topics and useful glossaries. Alexander and Elias-Bursac have necessarily added modern touches by extending the exposure to Bosnian and updating the dialogues to reflect life in the early 21st century.

If you're serious about learning from scratch Bosnian / Croatian / Serbian / Serbo-Croatian / whatever you want to call it, this is THE course that you should use. (Note: As of 2009, the authors are providing answer keys to the exercises for free downloading at the website for this book. Run a search on Google using the terms "bcs grammar textbook") Unlike courses such as "Teach Yourself Serbian" or "Colloquial Croatian" for example, the authors here have truly designed this course with English-speakers in mind. Not only does the textbook indicate the patterns of accentuation and tone of every word, but it also gives in-depth grammatical explanations that often use English as a reference/point of comparison. In addition, the appendices have charts that show declensional and conjugational patterns while the glossary shows the aspectual pairs of verbs - something that some courses and dictionaries fail to do.

It is also noteworthy and praiseworthy that the standard variants of BCS are presented equally along with the distinctions between "(i)jekavski" and "ekavski". All of these help to give a sense to the user of the "fuzziness" of what some people insist as constituting "proper Bosnian", "proper Croatian" or "proper Serbian". The juxtaposition of texts in all three variants was indeed instructive and made me realize how parochial are some "debates" about Serbo-Croatian vs. Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian (which reflect more the political situation).

It is worthwhile to buy the CDs that have the dialogues and readings of the textbook so that you may get some audio exposure to the language. The reference manual of grammar that corresponds to this textbook is in my view not required as the textbook's explanations are sufficient. However, I do recommend that reference book if you want to go into detail on the grammatical explanations of the textbook or get a readable and balanced survey of the sociolinguistic topics regarding "Serbo-Croatian" and now "BCS".

the one to go for!

I was very satisfied with this book. I bought it at the last minute before my trip so only had time to work through 2 chapters, but even those set me in really good stead. I now have every confidence that what I learn as I continue to work through the book before my next trip will be accurate and valuable. Even the vocabulary which seemed a bit obscure to be introduced so early in the book proved very useful - the authors obviously really applied their knowledge of the language(s) well in structuring the lessons.

The book appeared to be geared more to classes or small groups, but as long as you are prepared to put in the effort I think anyone trying to learn independently (like I am) will find it fine. The little explanations of points of grammar were clearly explained and helped me communicate much more easily than if I had relied on a phrasebook or dictionary alone. Having said that, the glossary in the back of the book is in itself surprisingly extensive - in some instances providing more information than my dictionary.

If I were to make a small criticism it would be that the book could be improved by explaining what the different "cases" (e.g. genitive, accusative etc) all meant in the English language before discussing how they are formed in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian; it was to some extent assumed that the reader was already familiar with these terms, which English schooling has failed us on! However, once I found out what these terms meant (good old mum!), the way the B/C/S was presented in the book all made sense. It is a very good buy, and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn these languages!

This is a great book! I have been looking for a really long time for a textbook for Serbian language. I am so glad to have found this one. It discusses the different dialects and other differences between Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian, and in doing so is really a three-for-one language book. Mind you, there are subtle differences between the languages (as they are really just different dialects) but they are there all the same. I think it is about time someone does a book on Serbian language - one which goes well beyong the basics (travel books, etc.) and really delves into the complex grammar with examples. First-rate book! Oh, and I highly recommend the sister book - BCS Grammar. You can find it online too - great book which go in depth into the complicated grammar (and reasons why it is what it is based on the different regions of the former Yugoslavaia.) Beneficial to have this book also, if you need more explanations on grammar. I have them both, and they are both superlative.

Augusta Huiell Seaman (1879-1950) was an American author of children's literature. She graduated from Normal College in New York City in 1900 and went on to teach elementary school. Following her marriage in 1906, she devoted her time to writing children's books. While living in Island Beach, Augusta held various offices in the local government, including Borough clerk, Tax Collector, and Borough Registrar. A Story for Children

The premise of the story is that two young girls at a beach house discover a mysterious dragon box and their endeavors to find the owner and why it was there. I realized it was written for a much younger audience but I enjoyed it and read the entire book.

What lies under the sand...

Lovely adventure story or should i say "What a MYSTERY." I never guessed what was going to happen next though i knew some facts, i love the way the auther leads you up in suspense to a specific part in the story and then it all just flows. Phyllis was a bit high and mighty/bossy sometimes but Leslie had a lovely character. I wish i had a dog like that :D Thank you for a lovely story of how a really simple trip can turn into something soo mysterious. =+D

A interesting book about a lesbian romance and lycanthropy from the point of view of the two lovers

Werewolf: The Beginning by Peggy Sue Gregory is a fun read about two college students Scarlette and Kalliope who become lovers over the course of the novel. But one fateful night, a curse has befallen on one of the young ladies that will change her life forever. Will this supernatural curse split the young lovers are bond them together? If you enjoy books about female werewolves and lesbian fiction then you'll want to take a peek at this one.

I found the book to be very interesting after a tepid start. One thing that bothered me was the switching from the point of view of Kalliope and Scarlette. I wished the author would have transitioned it better but I kind of enjoyed it, just wished it was executed better. I am glad that their was none of the typical "shifter drama" and feuding with other skinwalkers. The book is followed by the sequel Werewolf: The Return,

Intriguing First Effort

It seemed like such a bizarre combination, werewolves and lesbians, that I wanted to read more about it. This first effort by Peggy Sue Gregory was funny, campy, sexy and mostly, it kept me reading to the very end. Intriguing first effort by this author. I judge a book by its' content, not by any possible editorial shortcomings. Read this book. It is very entertaining.

About the Author
Eric C. Anderson is a faculty member with the National Intelligence University. As a long-standing member of the U.S. intelligence community, he has written over 600 articles for the President’s Daily Brief, National Intelligence Council, International Security Advisory Board and the Department of Defense. In addition, he is a leading scholar on the rise of sovereign wealth funds. His book, Take the Money and Run: Sovereign Wealth Funds and the Demise of American Prosperity was published in March 2009. His focus on events in Asia is reflected in a text published in 2010, China Restored: The Middle Kingdom Looks Forward to 2020. He has also written a book on private adoption, Adopting Ainsley: There’s No Place for a Car Seat on a Motorcycle and has just finished Sinophobia: The Huawei Story. Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Anderson served on the CIA Red Cell, as a member of Hicks and Associates, and at the Defense Intelligence Agency as a senior intelligence analyst. In addition, he has been a senior intelligence analyst for the Multi National Forces-Iraq in Baghdad and at the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii. From 1990-2000, Mr. Anderson was an active duty intelligence officer in the United States Air Force—with assignments in Japan, Korea and Saudi Arabia. He remains on duty as an Air Force reserve officer. He has also taught for the University of Missouri, University of Maryland, and the Air Force Academy. Mr. Anderson has a PhD in political science from the University of Missouri, a MA from Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and a BA from Illinois Wesleyan University. A Harley rider, Mr. Anderson claims to have put over 200,000 miles on motorcycles during the last 25 years.

The cover of the book looks relatively professional however the writing was not so. While full of the expected information on the author's research, the writing reflected a self published book that showed little in the way of professional editing.

detail analysis of Huawei's difficulty in particular and US-China's mistrust in general

Mr. Anderson has done an excellent research job in the subject of matter and provides the analysis Huawei's difficulties. It is the protectionism at work. Protectionism is mutual. China has expelled Google and banned, recently, the use of Windows 8 operating system from the government computers for the same reason - fear plus retaliation. Such a path may lead to the destruction of both economies. Protectionism typically has small short term gains but lose large in long term. Without securing the mutual trust with China, the future is bleak. The confrontation will be ugly and disastrous. We may be already on the path of no return.

My only negative point for this book is that the formatting is sometimes distracting, especially the references are embedded in the text.
